WEEK 2 – First Original Painting

Week 3 – Abstract Painting

The process of the abstract…

Week 4 – Plein Air

These are images of my different levels and layers with this painting. I started with a blue sky, then it was a grey day, so I changed that by adding white and layers of grey. I attempted to charcoal out my pal for the painting and didn’t like it, but I got an idea of how I wanted to change it. So wiped away the charcoal and outlined everything with grey paint. From there I had my bones of the structure of my Plein Air.

This process was both incredibly humbling, as well as inspiring. It worked with my emotions of being severely self-conscious and aware of my weaknesses, as well as showing me my strengths.

Something I am truly loving is the texture possibilities with this medium of acrylic paint. I would like to get something to make it thicker, but I am not financially ready to jump into such luxurious places just yet. I am learning to build the thickness by waiting (and dancing around) for the paint to dry. I am  learning to stand back, take my time and to be patient. Sometimes I put my hands on a canvas and ask it what it wants me to bring out of it, or what it wants to be. This whole experience is moving within me on so many different levels.

Really in love with this class. I knew I needed it, and have felt drawn to taking it for about a decade. So very happy to be here.

Week 4 – Still Life Painting Start

Week 5 – Still Life Food Final

This painting was quite a challenge. Following lines and sizes is not my greatest talent. Though, I believe that skills come with practice and dedication to learning and growth. I hope one day I can become better at this, though, I feel it will take many hours of practice.

Painting this upside down was quite different, though I was happy to see the shadow once I flipped it. I do feel I did a decent job, of course there is much more learning to be experienced. I hope I can gain more skills and find more understanding along the way, of how to make such a painting more life-like and realistic.

I am open to any thoughts or ideas for improvement. This has been a great journey, this far.

Final Painting

The Final

Below is the journey this painting has gone through. It has been a long one, having started around February 22nd, and now at this close to final stage on March 17th. Two whitewashes, and many days waiting to see what it is calling for next. Such a beautiful journey, and not quite over yet.
